Undergraduate Programs

#UCFBusiness works under the idea that there are many benefits to taking a more proactive approach to choosing a career and has designed a curriculum and programs to help you land your next opportunity (e.g., job, business start-up, graduate school) before you leave UCF.

Selecting a Major in the College of Business Administration

Figuring out what you want to do with your one precious life is a challenging task. There are many possibilities and sorting through them is a daunting task. Many business school students come to us with “fuzzy goals” and hope to narrow their choices as they go through their college years. The problem with this approach is that a late change in your area of study can greatly delay your time to graduation and leave you with gaps in your experience and skill sets as you leave college and enter the marketplace.

Admission into the College of Business

The College of Business Administration (CBA) is a restricted access college, meaning that in order to be accepted into a College of Business major certain criteria must be met. Therefore, admission into UCF does not equate to admission into the College of Business Administration. Once a student applies, or transfers to UCF, students must qualify to be admitted into their intended major and are placed in a “pre” business major until requirements are complete.

Admission into all CBA restricted access BSBA programs (Accounting, Economics, Finance, Integrated Business, Management, Marketing, and Real Estate) requires:

  • Completion of the General Education Program
  • Completion of the Gordon Rule requirements
  • Completion of the Business Common Program Prerequisites with a grade of C or better
    • MAC 1105 College Algebra
    • ACG 2021 Financial Accounting

Selecting Your Major

Based upon the interests and skills identified in the Career Research and Planning class and academic performance in the Primary Business Core classes, students will select and request admission to a specific business major. Due to the highly specialized nature of the Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing majors, interested candidates must show mastery of the subject matter, as demonstrated by a 3.0 GPA in the five Primary Core classes. Additionally, a grade of at least a B “3.0” is required in the introductory course of the desired major, and a minimum grade of C “2.0” is required in each of the five Primary Core classes. Upon admission into the Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing majors, a minimum grade of C “2.0” is required in all coursework in the program. Students must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA in the Major as well as a minimum 2.0 GPA in the College to successfully complete these programs.

All students, upon successful completion of the Primary Business Core classes with a minimum GPA of 2.0 are eligible to enter the Economics, Integrated Business, and Real Estate majors. Upon admission into the Economics, Integrated Business, and Real Estate majors, students must earn a minimum grade of C “2.0” in all major coursework, and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in the Major and College to successfully complete the degree.

In the Major Curriculum

After selecting a specific business major and receiving college approval to enter the major, students will begin taking coursework in their selected major. All business majors require 27 credit hours of coursework in the major. In addition, all students will complete the Secondary Business Core and the remaining three courses in the Career Professional Series. These courses are to be taken concurrently with coursework in the major.

The Secondary Business Core courses are designed to ensure that students have a solid understanding of the various functions of business and the environment in which the enterprise operates. The Secondary Business Core courses are:

  • GEB 3375 Introduction to International Business
  • BUL 3130 The Legal and Ethical Environment of Business
  • MAR 3203 Supply Chain Management
  • MAN 4720 Strategic Management/Capstone

In order to prepare students for their post college career, students will also complete the Career Professional Series that began with GEB 3003 Career Research and Planning. The Career Professionalism Series includes:

  • GEB 3003 Career Research and Planning
Students will take assessments to identify career-related skills and interests. Based on their assessment results, students will perform research to identify and learn about a target career, target company(ies), and target entry-level jobs. The class will end with an introduction to recruiting and the preparation of their resume.
  • GEB 3005 Career Search Strategies
Students will learn about the mechanics of finding a job including sources of hire (job boards, campus resources and activities, cultivating referrals, networking, internships, etc.) and job seeker activities (sourcing job leads, application process, interviewing, follow-up).
  • GEB 4223 Business Interviewing Techniques
Students will practice the verbal skills needed to find a job by learning how to “tell their story.” This includes activities such as mock interviewing, networking, elevator pitch, social media messaging, personal branding, etc.
  • GEB 4004 Executing Your Career Plan
Students will finalize the implementation of their career plan and learn what to do after they get their entry-level job to manage their career. The class will end with a reflection on the essay written in GEB 3003.
